RESEARCH CENTRE

STEP HOUSE RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTRE : a step into real Africa

Only half an hour north of the busy capital of  Harare, lies a peaceful range of blue hills called Christon Bank.  On the highest of these hills, overlooking Hidden Valley is situated the Africa AHEAD  Research and Training Centre.

RESEARCH RETREAT:

As from July 2012, the Founders of Africa AHEAD are opening up their spacious home as a facility for   NGO and Agencies, providing a quiet venue for  executive weekend retreats  or small scale workshops. With two large meeting rooms and catering for 20 in the most spectacular safari setting, this venue is  the in-place for the ex-pat community searching to combine development work with an Out of Africa Experience. With three double rooms there is accomodation for  facilitators only, whilst participants can  easily commute  each day  from Harare.

REST AND RESEARCH:

The Centre will also provide Post Graduate Research students conducting their research within Zimbabwe AHEAD projects a base for their field work  in Community Health Clubs with an unforgettable place to spend time writing up their findings research in the most inspiring African atmosphere.

INTERNSHIPS:

Each year a maximum of  four newly qualified professionals in the Public Health Sector may apply for a place as an intern within our organisation to research aspects of the  Community Health Club  Approach.  Our vision is to build a ‘school of development’ based on sound  practice, with a strong academic paper trail providing an institutional memory for our innovative methods.

Those interested can apply as a research intern by sending thier CV to Dr. Juliet Waterkeyn (juliet@africaahead.com) with a research proposal related to increasing understanding of the CHC Approach. Four proposals will be selected each year. Those who are accepted will be required to find their own sponsorship for this unique opportunity.
